Married three times, his third and current marriage is with Stella Arroyove, 18 years his junior. Stella, a former antique dealer from Los Angeles, has been an integral part of Hopkins' life.

Born in December 1931, Hopkins showed an early affinity for the creative arts. He began playing the piano at the tender age of five, encouraged by his mother to pursue music lessons. His interest in music has only grown over the years, extending to playing complex pieces by renowned composers like Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Scriabin.

Hopkins remarks, "I started as a kid. I don't aspire to perform at places like Carnegie Hall; I play for my own enjoyment."
