The infallible zero-cost trap to catch mosquitoes and insects that invade your home

Prepare the Bottle: Begin by cutting the plastic bottle a few centimeters below where the lid screws on. You’ll end up with two pieces: the top part that forms a funnel and the bottom part that will hold the solution.

Assemble the Trap: Invert the top part of the bottle (the funnel) and place it into the bottom part. Secure the two pieces together with adhesive tape around their edges to ensure no gaps.

Create the Mixture: Heat the water until it’s lukewarm, not boiling. Dissolve the sugar in the water, then let it cool down to room temperature. Once cooled, pour this sugary water into the bottom part of the bottle. Sprinkle the yeast into the water-sugar solution without mixing. The yeast will feed on the sugar, producing carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.

Set the Trap: Cover the outside of the bottle with a dark plastic bag or cloth, leaving the top funnel part uncovered. This dark environment enhances the trap's effectiveness as mosquitoes are drawn to dark and damp locations.

Place the Trap: Position your mosquito trap in an area where you notice mosquitoes frequently, but away from direct human activity, as the carbon dioxide generated can attract mosquitoes towards the trap.

Maintenance: Check the trap every few days. You may need to replace the sugar-water-yeast solution every two weeks or so to maintain its effectiveness. The bottle can also be replaced as needed, especially if it starts to degrade or when it's full of trapped mosquitoes.

Additional Tips:

Location: For best results, place multiple traps around your home, especially near entry points such as doors and windows or in damp areas where mosquitoes are likely to breed.

Safety: While this trap is non-toxic, it's still advisable to keep it out of reach of small children and pets.

Environmental Note: While this method utilizes plastic bottles, consider recycling the bottles after their use to minimize environmental impact.

By following these simple steps, you can create a reliable mosquito trap that will help you enjoy a more peaceful and itch-free environment in your home. This natural approach not only saves money but also contributes to a healthier living space by avoiding the use of harmful chemicals
